LGBT Centre for Health & Wellbeing

The LGBT Centre for Health and Wellbeing is a unique initiative to promote the health of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people living in, working in and travelling to Edinburgh. We run events, workshops and courses promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting LGBT communities, provide a wide range of information on health and LGBT topics, and support community groups.

At The Centre
The centre began in 2003 and since then has grown from strength to strength. Currently, celebrating the relaunch of the centre is a new group of staff and keen volunteers. The aim of the centre is to provide a safe space for the LGBT community to meet and take part in activties to develop health and wellebing within the individual. The centre is a unique project which aims to improve the health of the LGBT community in south-east Scotland.

Research shows that LGBT people experience significant health problems which are strongly linked to social exclusion, homophobic discrimination and ignorance. The project aims to address these issues by improving access by LGBT people to mainstream health services, strengthening the capacity of LGBT communities to promote health, reducing levels of social isolation experienced by many LGBT people and supporting individual LGBT people to maintain healthy lifestyles.

The centre provides variety in its programme of activities ranging from Drop-In Sessions to community workshops.
